| Name: A Jon Lord Fan From: Austria E-mail: tommy.lord@gmail.com |
To Dario: I'm a 19 year old keyboardist from Vienna, Austria and a huge Jon Lord fan like you. I own a chopped Hammond C3, a tube-Leslie 147 and a Marshall JCM 800 2204 Head together with a big box. I just searched the internet for Deep Purple Tribute Bands in Europe and I've found about 20 good bands. But after listening to all the mp3-files at your homepage I have to say that you are far better then all the other Deep Purple tribute-keyboard players out there who are much older in most cases. I like what you're doing on your chopped organ, you are quite fast and you have good ideas when soloing. You are copying quite many Lordy licks. Your sound is good too and is similiar to Jon's early 80ies organ sound. As I saw on the picture, you are using a tra**tor type of Leslie. Those don't sound too good in comparison to a tube Leslie. If you wanna have a much bigger sound and if you wanna have that certain "Hammond-growl" you should effort yourself a chopped Leslie 122 or 147. The warm and thick distortion/overdrive from those 6550 tubes really makes the difference and your organ sounds like a fat monster. Try it out and you'll be of the same opinion! To get Jon's 70ies Mark II-sound you should get a Marshall JCM 800 2204 single channel Head together with a Marshall 4x12" Box with 4xGreenback Celestion speakers or 4xCelestion Vintage 30 speakers. What I missed is the ability to change the sound within the drawbars of the Hammond during a song. They give you more dynamics together with the expression pedal. But no other tribute organ player out there does either (I can't understand why..). I hope my feedback was helpful for you. I really had to point it out how good your playing is in comparison to all the other wanna be Jon Lords. If you wanna have a talk about Deep Purple stuff, just email me! greetings from vienna Tommy Lord
